Joy Escapes
I wander the ether in search of a needing soul
We all meander till some event or muse
Or catastrophe
Summons us to the now.
We are the singular expression of the heart
Held silent within this dark kingdom,
Blind to our own thoughts,
Mute for our own desires
Each soul carries us in their cage
From moment to moment till
Some key crisis demands a response.
The spirit unlocks our prison doors
And for a time
We are expressed till we are spent
Sent into the world
We went whichever way
Our event was bent to vent us.
Momentous
Some of us have been caged for years
The pacing prowl of anger rattles
The bars that bind his prison cell
Or love which flutters from pedestal
To perch and from perch to flight
Ever afraid to enter the light
Or I, the undulating fervor of joy
Which presses longingly against
The long neglected corridor of doubts
And long forgotten childhoods
But today I found freedom
As a passing cloud of stress
Fled through our stockade and
Rattled our lost crates
Chased by some unremarkable tune
From some misunderstood youth
Played with just the right notes
And in the right key
To unlock and release me.
